Inpatient Substance Abuse Treatment

At Rivendell Behavioral Health Hospital, we believe that no one should have to face chemical dependency alone — detox, treatment, lapse or relapse. No matter the circumstance, Rivendell is here for you.

We understand that detox from drugs or alcohol is uncomfortable, and it can be dangerous. Because Rivendell is a hospital, we offer medically assisted detox and treatment for adults ages 18 and older. When you come to the hospital, nurses will immediately check your physical status, and get you settled in a private detox room. Your physician will prescribe medicines to get you through withdrawal. Nurses will monitor you continuously using the Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment (CIWA) tool. Rivendell is experienced, and your safety is greatly important to us.

After detoxification, a psychiatrist will continue to see you daily to talk about how your mental health affects your substance abuse. They will prescribe medications, if needed, to help stabilize your thoughts and moods. Research tells us the best way to treat dual diagnosis (mental health and substance abuse) is to treat both at the same time.

Patients often are admitted with medical issues that have been neglected or aggravated by substance abuse. An internal medicine physician will help to get you back on your maintenance medications and make referrals to specialists if needed.

As you start to feel better after detox, come join the treatment groups and talk with your individual therapist. Therapy helps you develop skills to regulate your emotions and increase your distress tolerance. After all, that’s what this is all about: working toward a healthier life. The Rivendell treatment team can help with that.

We want you to be successful regardless of how long your stay is at Rivendell. You will be encouraged to work the “first step” of recovery programs, find a sponsor, and identify and attend a meeting at your “home group.” Inpatient treatment can be followed by Rivendell’s step-down program that meets three times a week. Participants in this program are seen by the psychiatrist once a week for continuing medication management.

No one should have to face a crisis alone. You don’t have to face this crisis alone. Rivendell is here to help.
