Inpatient Treatment for Senior Adults

The Legacy Unit at Rivendell Behavioral Health Hospital provides acute psychiatric inpatient treatment for seniors in a secure, compassionate therapeutic environment.

It can be difficult to determine whether a loved one is in need of care, and we are here to provide confidential, no-cost assessments day or night.

Some common signs of mental health issues in the elderly may include:

  • Increased anxiety
  • Fatigue
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Feelings of hopelessness
  • Poor personal care
  • Decrease in appetite
  • Being socially withdrawn
  • Memory problems
  • Unexplained physical complaints
  • Paranoia
  • Increased substance abuse
  • Hallucinations
  • Non-compliance with medication
  • Unsuccessful medication trials
  • Angry outbursts, combativeness

Treatment plans at Rivendell are based on thorough psychiatric evaluations and mental health assessments. Treatment focus is on the specific issues that need to be improved before the patient can return to their living situation.

Multidisciplinary treatment is led by a psychiatrist, an advanced practice nurse and nursing staff, a licensed mental health therapist, a dietician and a recreational therapist. Legacy staff are well-qualified to address medical issues commonly found in an older population.

Case managers will assist with understanding treatment options, discharge planning, aftercare needs and working with your insurance carrier. The case manager will coordinate communication needs with the professionals you rely on at home, with your permission.

Referrals can be made by physicians, therapists, ministers, social service agencies or family members. Referrals are accepted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Assessments can be completed at the hospital, or mobile assessments are available by appointment. Please call 270-843-1199 or 800-548-2621 to schedule a confidential assessment or to get more information.
